Throughout my BFA in printmaking, I explored mythology through the lens of Joseph Campbells book Hero of a Thousand Faces. His book acted as a departure point for my thesis which investigated the mythological motif where the hero is forced to achieve greatness against monumental opposing force. This motif fascinates me because it is a juncture intrinsic to peoples daily lives and raises questions about their power, integrity, and confidence. Notions of the unknown become peoples test of perseverance.
Since graduating in 2009, my work has progressed from exploring mythology through narrative representations to researching what enables people to achieve their goals. By investigating community, spirituality, and transcendental thought, I create multi layered prints that express a strengthening experience. Visual dialogue develops through the arrangement of elementary shapes, organic textures, and archaic mark making. Monolithic forms become symbols of optimistic possibility echoed by the chaos of undefined space. Tension in the prints becomes the catalyst for change. Figures like family, artists, and musicians become elements in my work as external foundations of perseverance. They are examples of people with an overwhelmingly amount of passion for what they do.
All prints are for sale. They come packaged with acid free backing and a snug plastic bag. please send me a line if you are interested and I'll give you a quote. I'm very reasonable and flexible.
